Digital Comics Best-Sellers for September 16, 2013

Sixth Gun 1

ComiXology

1. The Walking Dead #114
2. Injustice: Gods Among Us #25
3. X-Men, vol. 4 #5
4. Avengers, vol. 5 #19
5. Batman #23.2: Featuring Riddler
6. Justice League #23.2: Featuring Lobo
7. Mighty Avengers #1
8. Locke & Key Alpha #1
9. Action Comics #23.2: Featuring Zod
10. Final Crisis #2

DC wins in terms of most comics in the top ten, but it’s an odd mix: The latest issue of Injustice: Gods Among Us, as usual, three of the Villains Month special one-shots, and an issue of Final Crisis that was on 99-cent sale over the weekend. The Walking Dead, which has become a behemoth of a comic, tops the list, and it’s interesting to see another Big Two alternative, Locke & Key Alpha, make the top ten. This is the first issue of a two-issue final arc, and it’s priced at a rather steep $7.99 for 40 pages, but apparently the readers don’t care.

Kindle

1. Injustice: Gods Among Us #35
2. The Sixth Gun, vol. 1
3. Injustice: Gods Among Us #34
4. Injustice: Gods Among Us #33
5. The Hedge Knight
6. The Walking Dead #114
7. The Walking Dead, vol. 1
8. Injustice: Gods Among Us #32
9. Fables, vol. 1
10. Injustice: Gods Among Us #1

There are some interesting alternatives on Kindle as well. The Sixth Gun, Cullen Bunn and Brian Hurtt’s action-packed supernatural Western, has been out for quite a while so it’s interesting that it shows up not only here but on Amazon’s overall comics and graphic novels list (print and digital), where it’s in the fourth slot as of this writing and was number one a little while ago. In the number five spot we have The Hedge Knight, George R.R. Martin’s prequel to Game of Thrones, which won’t actually be out until November—it’s charting now based on pre-orders. And the other non-Injustice/Walking Dead title is the first volume of Bill Willingham’s Fables, in which the familiar characters of fairy tales and children’s literature take on new lives and adventures that are anything but childish.

Nook

1. Injustice: Gods Among Us #35
2. Injustice: Gods Among Us #32
3. Injustice: Gods Among Us #34
4. It’s a Dog’s Life, Snoopy!
5. The World According to Lucy
6. Snoopy at the Bat
7. Sandman #1
8. The Walking Dead, vol. 1
9. Injustice: Gods Among Us #1
10. The Walking Dead, vol. 2

There’s a certain sameness to the Nook charts; it’s Injustice, Peanuts, and The Walking Dead all the way, with just that one issue of Sandman to break things up a bit.

iBooks

1. Injustice: Gods Among Us #35
2. My Little Pony: Micro Series #8 – Celestia
3. The Walking Dead #114
4. My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic #10
5. Injustice: Gods Among Us #34
6. My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic #7
7. Injustice: Gods Among Us #33
8. My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic #1
9. My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic #8
10. My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic #2

The iBookstore continues to be dominated by My Little Pony, and interestingly, it’s the only platform where this shows up at all.

Overall, a pretty ordinary week for comics, but it’s interesting to see readers reaching for a few new titles and snapping up some older comics (besides the first volume of The Walking Dead) in digital as well.
